Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Tissues, especially blood are electrical conductors. PEMF is useful in the treatment of wet, ionic tissues such as muscle, nerve, oedema and haematoma. PEMF targets the cell membrane with its primary effect being the transportation of ions across the cell membrane. It up-regulates cell behaviour creating a therapeutic effect.

PEMF is useful for the following:

  • Soft tissue injury
  • Reducing pain
  • Reducing oedema and bruising
  • Neurological injuries/conditions
  • Fracture repair
  • Osteoporosis

In addition to a variety of pulsed magnetic applicators, the system also has a combined phototherapy and visible red emitter which is useful in wound healing and scar reduction, giving the option of red light and PMF therapy to be offered simultaneously.
